Back In The Fold
16.12.09
MG Enthusiast Editor-at-Large Andrew Roberts returns to TF ownership with a new 135 and is hugely impressed.
While I have gained something of a reputation among those who know me of being a dedicated MG person, I have never been a one-eyed individual in terms of the MG marque. Indeed, as a motoring writer I have been fortunate to have driven all kinds of cars from Rolls- Royces to budget-price family buys. My ownership experience includes the original Minis that I loved, MG’s arch rival the Mazda MX-5 which I really couldn’t get on with and a BMW MINI Cooper that could not be faulted but never really inspired me, good as it was. T-types, Midgets, MGBs and an MG ZR have all numbered among the octagon contingent, while in the long-gone happy days of company vehicles an MG Maestro Efi and Turbo featured at someone else’s expense.
So where does the MGF/TF figure in my ownership experience? The first of these, and undoubtedly the best, was the 1995 1.8i while the last of the quintet was a late MGR TF135 that was frankly disappointing and showed obvious signs of Longbridge cost cutting. Latest was certainly not best and the prospect of my returning to MG ownership seemed remote. Although I attended the relaunch of MG at Longbridge, I couldn’t envisage future MG ownership. If I am honest I did wonder about quality issues under Chinese ownership and whether the reborn TF could rekindle the magic of the first MGF. But at least the marque was very much alive and the commitment appeared to be there...

MG Live!
http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/news-events/news/mglive-2010-dates-announced/
MGLive! 2010 dates announced
27.01.10
IT'S THE NEWS Worldwide MG enthusiasts have been waiting for: MGLive! 2010 dates have now been confirmed. The MG Car Club's annual Silverstone event will take place on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th June. Prebooking sales will commence from early February.
Furthermore, the MG Car Club is thrilled to announce that the MGLive! 2010 racing programme will take place on Silverstone’s full Grand Prix circuit.
MGLive!, the MG Car Club’s annual Silverstone celebration, has been staged at the iconic Northamptonshire circuit since 1950 – and is set to celebrate 60 glorious years in 2010.
The MG Car Club, which has raced on Silverstone’s International circuit since the early 90s, will now make the exciting transition to the full 3.2 mile Grand Prix track. The switch will allow MG Car Club competitors to experience the thrill of Stowe and Abbey – famous corners which will now echo to the sound of MGs from across nine decades.
The announcement is sure to be greeted with immense enthusiasm by the MG Car Club’s large racing contingent and is expected to capture the imagination of the UK’s buoyant club motorsport scene.
MGLive! is the jewel in the crown of the club’s racing calendar. Aside from the Silverstone dates, the MG Car Club’s race programme is also scheduled to visit Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton.
MG Car Club Vice President Ron Gammons said:
“This announcement is an enormous accolade for the MG Car Club and needless to say we’re extremely excited. The feedback from our race championship co‐ordinators has been very positive indeed and having spoken to some of the club’s racers, they are elated to have the opportunity to compete on Great Britain’s premier race track.”
MG Car Club Chairman John Day said:
“This is the perfect way for the MG Car Club to commemorate our 60th consecutive Silverstone event. Motorsport is an integral component of the MG Car Club and it’s a testament to our professional team that Silverstone has afforded the club such an exclusive opportunity. 2010 is shaping up to be one of great progression and success for the MG Car Club.”

Hurry, Scrappage deal ending soon

Hurry, Scrappage deal ending soon
01.02.10
The Government Scrappage Scheme continues to run until the end of February but with funds running short, it is important to act fast if you want to take advantage of the £2,000 saving. Here are some points to remember about the Scrappage Scheme:
• You can own a brand new TF from only £11,799 OTR*
• Cars can be ordered in February for delivery in March on a new 10 plate
• Vehicles registered before 29th February 2000 are eligible after 12 months continual ownership
• The car you wish to scrap must have MOT, tax and insurance valid until you collect your new car or, if these expire between order and March delivery, you must be prepared to allow the dealer to scrap the car at that point.
Please also be aware that on the road prices for all cars will be subject to change at the end of March when the new rates of vehicle excise duty come into force.
Great big fun with an even tinier price for one final month.

MG ready for a longer Scrap!

MG ready for a longer Scrap!
04.02.10
Today the Government announced that the end date for the Scrappage Scheme will be held over until March 31st 2010. This is not an extension with no additional funding available.
Very soon, each manufacturer will receive an allocation of the remaining funding. This means that once MG has used our allowance we will need to close our scheme and that could be well before the end of March.
The best way to secure your new TF for March registration is to contact your local dealer and arrange your deal as soon as possible. As long as the criteria are met, you can order today and still benefit from the upcoming 10 plate.
Once the allocation is in place, orders will be taken on a first come, first served basis so click here to find your local dealer or here to check your eligibility and ensure that you don’t miss out on the fantastic £2000 saving on all MG TF.
For details of the Secretary of State’s comments regarding the change in the end date for the Scheme and the allocation of funding to individual manufacturers click here.

Britain’s best value sports car goes out to the people
From the 15th February until the 21st March, MG will be taking its latest range of cars out to meet the people at some of the biggest shopping centres in the country.
The new MG TF135 sports cars are stylish, dynamic, practical and economical, but their most striking feature is the price, from only £13,799 OTR (or just £11,799 on the government scrappage scheme until the end of March). So if you thought MG style and performance was unaffordable, then think again and come and see us at:-
1. Merry Hill in the West Midlands on 15th & 21st February
2. St Davids Centre, Cardiff from 15th to the 21st February
3. West Quay Shopping Centre, Southampton from 15th to the 21st February
4. The Meadows in Chelmsford on the 27th and 28th February
5. Metro Centre, Gateshead on the 6th and 7th March
6. High Cross Centre, Leicester on the 11th & 12th of March
7. Bluewater near Dartford from the 19th to the 21st March
A sports car for the price of an ‘ordinary’ car
The MG TF 135 is designed to appeal to motorists who want sports car style and performance at the price of an ‘ordinary’ car. There has never been a better time to buy, because if you have a qualifying car, you could trade this in for a new MG sports car and be eligible for a £2,000 discount, until the end of March 2010 thanks to the government’s scrappage scheme.
