    Not rubbish, could be better.

I love the 6, I'd be happy to buy a 3 in it's current form if it's similarly priced to an entry level ZR and came as a 1.5 with aircon and 4x elec windows and mirrors. Many people hate the 3 however.

Many other manufacturers now seem to be sticking fairy closely to their original concepts.

Maybe someone with a three year old Polo who wants a new car, but I doubt a Fiesta driver would be interested seeing as those cars are much bigger these days than the original design. They would be be similar in size to the MG Zero/5.

The same probably goes for someone who liked the ZR/25 because the MG3 looks smaller. I own a ZR and I reckon that if I'd wanted an MG of similar size to take its place, then the MG Zero/5 would be the one for me

And the article was pulled from MGs website within 24hours so they must have had enough interest.

Looking at EMG's website, it looks like they are already here, you can at least book an MG6 test drive on there.

What does EMG stand for in this case?

    Yes, you're right.

    http://www.emglondon.co.uk/new-cars/mg/

I must say I find it strange that, of the three addresses,

    - Finchley is nowadays definitely in London (in the London Postal Districts);

    - Croydon is in Surrey but also Greater London - it also has a London phone number;

    - but Epsom is in Surrey, not in Greater London, it doesn't have a London phone number and I bet the police is Surrey Police, not Metropolitan, but the site is called EMG "London"! Doh

AFAIK EMG is "Epsom Motor Group" like the "S" in "SMC" is "Slough"...

I've not been to Epsom for years, though they used to have a marvellous double glazing sales office and a great plumbing shop. Time to visit again?

When I fist met EMG, it was "Exeter Motor Group", it also had another branch known as "Exemouth Motor Group", as far as I know all the same company.

The number plate on my MG ZS has a non-functional EMG website address on the bottom, was printed by Vospers!

    MG6 Magnette Press Launch

Post by richardk on Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:15 pm

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_MAGNETTEPRESSLAUNCH

Yesterday, the all-new MG6 Magnette sports saloon was launched to the Press at Goodwood on a gloriously sunny day.

Journalists from some of the key motoring magazines including Autocar, What Car? and Auto Express put the car through its paces on a demanding test route on country roads and twisty lanes.

Lord March entertained the journalists when he spoke of some of the exploits of his grandfather, ‘Freddie’, who was a famous MG racing driver in the 1930s.

Two enthusiasts brought along their cars, a 1956 MG ZA Magnette and a 1958 MG ZB Varitone Magnette, to complete the scene.

The new MG6 Magnette will go on sale next month. Full spec and details to follow shortly.

MG team up with RLR Racing

Post by richardk on Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:01 pm

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_LEMANSSPONSORSHIP

Earlier this week MG Motor announced the start of a strategic partnership with the RLR Racing team.

Motorsport has always been integral to the MG brand so this is one of the great traditions that is continuing with Team RLR. The team’s race car was a part of the class-winning MG Lola sports prototype project between 2003 and 2008. Homologated as the MG Lola EX265, the car successfully took an LMP2 class win at Le Mans in 2006, and the LMP2 team and drivers’ titles in the Le Mans Series in 2007.

In September the RLR team will be racing at the famous Silverstone track, which is where Team RLR driver Rob Garofall thoroughly enjoyed driving the MG6 GT around the Stowe Circuit, and Estoril in Portugal.

Here at MG, we are delighted to be involved with an all British team who are building a competitive base with the ultimate goal of mounting a real challenge at the world famous 24 hour race next year.

Check out for further updates on our website and our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/mgmotor

    Top racer returns to MG

Post by richardk on Wed Aug 17, 2011 5:33 pm

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_MGRACERRETURNS

One of Britain’s most experienced endurance racing drivers will help MG’s return to international motorsport.

Warren Hughes, a former MG factory driver, will be in Team RLR’s line up in the MG Lola EX265 during the final two rounds of the 2011 Le Mans Series at Silverstone and Estoril.

MG Motor UK recently announced a partnership with Team RLR. The team hopes to contest the Le Mans 24-hour race next year.

Hughes has previously won Le Mans class honours in the MG Lola EX265. He will partner Barry Gates and Rob Garofall at Silverstone on September 11.

Looking forward to the Silverstone race, Hughes said: “Being back in an MG-backed car is a great feeling and my time with MG before was some of my fondest of my racing career.”

Team RLR visited MG Motor UK’s factory at MG Birmingham recently and saw the MG6 GT and MG6 Magnette models that are designed, and engineered at the site. Final assembly of both cars also takes place at the Birmingham plant.

3 year fixed price servicing for £199

Post by richardk on Tue Aug 30, 2011 7:52 pm

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_3YEARSERVICING

MG Motor UK is introducing a special three-year fixed price servicing cover for just £199 on all new MG6 models sold during the new ’61 plate month of September.

It adds even more to an already amazingly strong value-for-money package on the new MGs. They have probably the highest level of standard specification of any cars in their sector on sale today.

The latest MGs also benefit from extremely low insurance group ratings of 13E, and 14E on top TSE models, which reduce premiums for most drivers.

Clint Cordle, MG Motor’s Marketing Manager, said:

“The fixed price servicing offer adds to an already very impressive list of cost savings for buyers. The MG6 models have a truly fantastic value-for-money package. MG6 GT fastback range starts at £15,459 for the S model, £16,995 for the SE and £18,995 for the TSE.

Team RLRs sights set on Silverstone success

Post by richardk on Thu Sep 08, 2011 6:26 pm

The mid-season break proved to be a productive one for the Lancashire-based squad as it added former Le Mans 24 Hours winner Warren Hughes to its line-up alongside regular drivers Barry Gates and Rob Garofall, and also confirmed famous British car brand MG Motor UK as an official sponsor.

Almost a year ago exactly to the day of the race at Silverstone Team RLR was competing in only its second ever outing in the Le Mans Series at the Northamptonshire circuit.
With the addition of high profile names like Hughes and MG to its banner the LMP2 class outfit has underlined just how far it has progressed in the space of 12 months and its determination to grown into a force to be reckoned with in the future.

However, no member of Team RLR is underestimating the scale of the challenge they will face around the 5.9km and 18 turns that make up the Grand Prix Circuit at the home of British motorsport.

Doubling as an Intercontinental Le Mans Cup round the event will see 53 confirmed entries vying for glory across five classes, with Team RLR up against 10 world-class rivals in the ultra-competitive LMP2 category.

Team RLR will also be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a DNF at the previous LMS round in Imola, where a technical issue stopped the squad’s challenge dead in its tracks on just the second lap.

However, with a recent testing session at Snetterton providing useful setup data should the weather play a part and the experience and pace of Hughes added to the consistency of Gates and Garofall, team principal Nick Reynolds believes both the MG Lola EX265 and his drivers have what it takes to shine on the big stage and add to the two top-five LMP2 class finishes already chalked up earlier this season.

Nick Reynolds, Team RLR team principal, said:
“Silverstone is a crucial event for us and we’ve been working very hard to prepare for it. We want to bounce back from the last round at Imola by securing a really strong result in front of our home crowd. It’s a fantastic place to go racing Silverstone, even more so with the addition of the new Silverstone Wing complex, and we’re looking forward to having all of our guests and fans of the team there supporting us. We’ll be up against some of the world’s top endurance racing drivers and teams, but it’s another chance to show we mean business and prove ourselves against the very best.”

Warren Hughes, Team RLR driver, said:
“I’m really looking forward to being back in action with Team RLR. I’m not sure what the weather will be like but I was impressed with how good the MG Lola was to drive in the wet during our recent test at Snetterton, so it shouldn’t be a problem if it does rain. With only testing to go on though I’m not sure how close to the pace of the class leaders we’ll be at Silverstone. Only once we’ve been out on track in practice and qualifying will we be able to judge that and settle our strategy. As long as we can stay trouble free anything can happen and a podium is not out of the question if things go our way. It would be nice to do that on home turf and then look to finish the season on a high at the final race in Estoril.”

Barry Gates, Team RLR driver, said:
“The whole team is looking forward to this event. We were a bit disappointed coming away from Imola as that had been the one hiccup in the season so far. Having managed to bring Warren Hughes back into the team is a big boost as he’s a very quick and experienced driver. We’re all excited about going to Silverstone and looking to achieve a good result on home soil. Last year at Silverstone we missed out on a decent finish close to the end of the race, so we want to put that right as we have moved on a long way since then as a team and should now be considered as serious competitors.”

Rob Garofall, Team RLR driver, said:
“Silverstone is our home round and to be racing there in such a high profile event under the banner of MG is extra special from a driver’s point of view. We were within touching distance of a good result at Silverstone last season, so we know we can go there and pose a serious challenge and be somewhere near the front of our class if everything comes together. As a racing driver my aim was always to be competing in a big championship like this and it’s a real privilege to be going to Silverstone with a great team of guys and a fantastic car to try and compete against some top opposition. I’m really looking forward to seeing all our guests and fans there to support us in what should be a superb event.”
