Top Gear UK Stig drives the Roewe 350...

Post by Windy on Thu Jan 05, 2012 10:00 pm

Looks like a "serious" piece on the Chinese automobile industry:

The new Stig - what is he doing?

    Oh No:

    Looking impressed!

There is an MG6 around the filming too...

    That's not an Austin...

Behind the scenes, it seems that Hammond didn't go - wasn't prepared to eat the food?

What music are they going to play - Hudson-Ford "This is the Roewe (to pick up the pieces)"? Laughing

It is on this sunday! feb 5th
Jeremy Clarkson and James May travel to Beijing for a look at China's ever-expanding car industry and a violent encounter with The Stig's Chinese cousin.

    Thanks wasequiped.

I'm tidying up this thread, but not closing it - you've posted the same thing twice! Not for long mwahaahaa.

Wonder when Top Gear is on? Bet it clashes with tatort - and it's Kraftwerk day on BBC 6Music too!

    Repeated 7PM Thursday BBC2 and probably Saturday 11th 8PM BBC3.

    You could record Kraftwerk?

    Thanks.

I dare say I can watch Top Gear on the iplayer - although I can make cassettes of the Kraftwerk programmes, it's a faff at 45 minutes a side.

Thanks. Yep - full-on clash with the best telly of the week.

Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk-inspired music playing, Tatort was from Vienna (snore) so I watched this.

Pretty good review! The 350 is well-appointed, its Chinese-spec engine is underpowered for the petrolheads and the 3-speed autobox is not particularly good. The Roewe beat the Trumpchi car based on an Alfa Romeo.

there was a discussion about when it was made - Clarkson guessed 1957 and May said 2004, which surprised me.

The end of the show is on YouTube - May says (truthfully) that he would not buy the Roewe while Clarkson says he would consider the Trumpchi if it were cheap! Then they say "look how far the Chinese have come" which is true. Chinese Attack Stig is a bit of a comical stereotype, but one that pwns the presenters!

In the more remote parts of China there were still vehicles like that being produced, and even introduced well after 2004 but they were hardly typical, in 2004 I think the VW Santana was the best selling car.

The Red Flag limo however, I suspect could not be driven out of the museum because it is too old to be licenced! I remember the MG fans being amazed that we could still drive MG 1100s on the public road - how could it pass emissions regulations?

I think that was a well performed joke, I'm not expecting to see the MG6 next week...
