MG5 to launch in June 2012

Post by Roverman on Fri May 06, 2011 1:19 am

The MG5 was only just recently unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show but SAIC are eager to get the compact MG5 hatch into production as quickly as possible. Work on taking the car from the concept into the production stage is already underway with SAIC reportedly talking with several different major component suppliers for the new car. The MG5 is expected to be priced at 90,000rmb to 130,000rmb when finally launched in mid 2012.

The MG5 concept was undoubtedly one of the major stars at the Shanghai Auto Show and will go onto be one of their big sellers in the next few years as the MG range is ramped up. MG3 sales are already underway with the MG3 being pushed squarely at younger buyers in China

    China car times.

Seems a bit far away considering we have already seen road-going mules ?

Looks like we may get to see it sooner.

The MG3 has already hit the market and is priced very competitively when compared with its peers in the mini car segment, it undercuts the Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, and Honda Fit – all popular small cars but keeps up with them in terms of styling and quality. The MG5 is aiming to hit the same record with the forthcoming MG5, media reports indicate that it will be priced from 90,000rmb to 130,000rmb when launched later this year. The MG5 will see production lines in June 2011 and should be on the market towards the end of the year with the choice of 1.5, 1.8 and a range topping 1.5T engine.

    Fantastic price also.

What will the UK pricing strategy be with suggestions coming in that the MG3 is to start at 12K ?

There is going to be a big overlap of the 3,5 & 6 if so.

I can see the '6 going up in price by at least £1K to allow the others to fit in.

I doubt that the base MG3 will be anywhere near that much, unless the UK version is going to be really high spec. It is only half that in China!
