    My Test Drive

Post by patpending on Fri May 27, 2011 6:06 pm

Went for a drive a couple of weeks back as a passenger in an MG6 at Luffield.

There was only 125 miles on the clock and the salesman was not too sure about all the features.

The car was a white top-of-the range TSE, with comfy leather seats. Sitting in the back reminds me of the roomiest cars I have ever sat in the back of, the 1800 and the Maxi, though the 1800 was shorter (Maxi - MUCH shorter). In many ways the MG6 is the spiritual successor to the Maxi.

The experience as a passenger was very comfortable over country lanes and A roads, despite the massive 18" wheels.

Performance was spirited when called upon.

When manoeuvring, the colour rear-view camera of the TSE seemed the kind of option which would have meant me not having to spend money at Dr. Dial's Paint Parlour.

The satnav incorporated a feature telling you the maximum speed for the road you were on.

Overall, it's a Maxi for the 21st century, but far larger.

That's just what I was thinking, even though I normally don't like white cars very much.

Can't see the reversing camera, thought it was obvious on the Chinese cars?

I asked, it's just under the MG.

I've seen the camera in situe, not working. It fits in really well where the tailgate release is. It points at an angle so bumper and road (or car you're about to reverse into) can be soon. Is this what is seen from inside Pat?

it fills the screen between driver and passenger with a colour video where otherwise the satnav view is seen.

Indeed but do you see what I've mentioned - bumper and some space beyond it?

I seem to remember the one in the Roewe 350 being down in the bumper so looking backwards rather than looking down from above - a nicer view but doesn't give you such a good idea of distance to go before a bump.

We hit nothing on the test drive.

TBH its range is well beyond the edge of the car.

A reversing camera is a good feature in conjunctions with reversing sensors. Disappointed though that the satnav is a a bit low spec by not having postcode search. Hopefully they'll offer an update later on.
