    MG6 Production halted by volcano!

Post by Windy on Thu Apr 29, 2010 3:15 pm

The Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull halts MG6 production

A small white plume of ash, dust and steam rises from the volcano erupting beneath Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull glacier

The report from the Sina news agency ( http://auto.sina.com.cn/car/2010-04-29/1858596584.shtml ) doesn't have much detail but suggests that production of MG6 and Roewe 550 cars is being suspended due to a lack of parts from Europe, quite what part Eyjafjallajokull has played isn't clear, could it be that they have run out of head gaskets for the Kavachi (volcanic) engines fitted to the MG6 and Roewe 550!

XPart also get a mention with a note that they are to continue to support the almost six million owners of MG - Rover produced cars.

Maybe the most interesting part of the story is the proof that the Chinese cars are assembled in China from European parts!

"the fitting has not been able to ship to, now 550 and MG6 will enter the
short work suspension time, original on May 3 may raise the vehicle, now
    looked like has not hoped.

The reason which needs to import regarding the declaration spare part,
the vehicle friend “armor second grade Ding” expressed that the small 6
which fittings do need to import, has not been already the domestic
    product?"

(So production resumes May 3rd? or now can't resume May3rd?
Anyway some important parts are being UK sourced.)

I found it difficult to understand, I think he is suggesting that if you have one on order for delivery begining of May then there is not much hope of it arriving on time.

I guess it's just a hickup though, the flight ban didn't last all that long!

Both the MG6 engines are Kavachi engines - the 1.8 DVVT and the 1.8 Turbo.
