    Introduction to the Roewe 850

Post by Windy on Fri Feb 06, 2009 6:45 pm

The Roewe 850 is SAIC's luxuary limosine, it is expected to have it's debut at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show.

Currently there are few details officialy available but it is thought to be based on a Ssangyong Chairman W with most development carried out by Ssangyong R&D staff in Korea before being brought in-house prior to SAIC putting it's Ssangyong joint venture into bankrupcy protection.

The grill badge on the car above is covered up to hide its identity, however the following spyshot reveals a rather special Roewe badge:

    Update:

Two models of Roewe 850 have now been registered for production, their model codes strongly suggest the use of a 2.8L engine in one and a 3.6L engine in the other. Although there has been talk of a 5L engine fitted to a long wheelbase version, as it has not been registered it will not be available any time soon.

Hmm, a few touches would bring it inline with the 750, and give a more family look. Use the same wing mirrors and more similar style headlights. I think the 550 would benefit from the 750's Premium grille as would the 850.
