Excellent review Pat. Roll on the diesel - I'm hearing October for the launch...
Roewe 950 to launch April 11th - Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:40 am
Slab-sided and a bit anonymous, but I guess they know their market and it'll sell well - especially given the Chinese Government's prioritisation of domestic companies on the approved purchasing lists...
January 2012 UK Registrations - Thu Feb 09, 2012 8:30 am
Definitely encouraging but I agree with Dorset Rocket - how long can the dealers hold on for the new models and the MG6 diesel? Had a great experience at Morrisons Garage in Stirling on Sunday - the salesman was knowledgeable & enthusiastic about the brand. If MG doesn't manage to get a dealer organised in the Glasgow area in time for October then I'll definitely do the 60 mile round trip and purchase from them.
I've been to Morrisons a few times (predominately a SEAT and FIAT dealership) and in the past MG models have been tucked away in a wee side part of the main showroom, but on Sunday, MG had prominence with a GT and a Magnette in the main showroom, and another couple outside the showroom entrance.
Little snippets of info I gleaned:
- MG6 diesel will be launched in October
- MG3 also possible from October but could be the following month - "This will be the volume seller"
- MG5 early 2013
Apparently, once the MG5 arrives, the MG6 will be price positioned a tad further up the chain, but not by much.
By the way, really like this site - makes a change to have a place where people who are genuinely enthusiastic about MG's new developments can post & discuss.
Regards
Ant

MG3 customer clinic in Warwickshire - Birmingham Post - Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:33 am
Here's some feedback on the MG3 I've sent MG via their website:
----------
Firstly, thanks for giving people the opportunity to give you feedback on the MG Zero Concept. I would very much have liked to come see the MG3 that you are currently running in customer clinics, but I don't think you're bringing the car to Scotland, so written feedback based on photos will have to suffice.
The 3 is a tidy, contemporary looking car, with neat lines and a nice interpretation of the octagon in the rear styling. There are definite shades of the Skoda Fabia in the side profile, and the floating roof looks inspired by the Suzuki Swift. Neither of these comparisons are bad - in fact, the car manages to pull off trendy and practical at the same time (no mean feat!). The front of the car is the best angle from my point of view - nice clean lines with minimal fuss, and the octagon pride of place. I would prefer to see the bonnet of the Zero Concept on the car which would underline the family resemblance to the 6. The flat bonnet of the Chinese-market 3 is too plain. Also, the car needs bigger wheels as the size of the sides make it look under-tyred. I currently drive a Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart, so I'm a fan of tall styling on small cars, but I appreciate this is not to everyone's taste. You should give real consideration to a 3 door version to complement the five door. This will significantly broaden the car's appeal to a wider audience (particularly younger buyers).
As for the interior, I applaud the minimalist, practical approach. The plastics will need to be of good quality to match the solidity of the design. I also like the iPod style switches - very contemporary and sure to go down well with younger drivers. There seems to be plenty of space in the car, no doubt aided by the tall styling. This will make the car easy to get in and out of, thereby also making the car attractive to an older age group (something the previous MG ZR couldn't quite pull off as opposed to the Rover 25).
I believe your strategy of ensuring MG has a wider appeal is a good one, but affordable sporty driving should be a constant thread throughout your range. In low powered versions, this should translate as fun chuckable handling. To keep the brand's integrity, higher performance versions are essential.
Hope this feedback is useful. For the UK and European markets, you should add as many of the Zero Concept's styling elements as possible to the 3 - this will guarantee a strong impact and get the car noticed within a fiercely crowded and competitive market. Also, while the styling of the car is contemporary, I've read somewhere that it may be 2013 before it hits the showrooms. You need a quicker turnaround in order to build momentum in your product offering and firmly establish MG as a significant player again. Same goes for the 5 which looks amazing! 2013 is far too long to wait.
I've been a lifelong supporter of Rover and MG, and until recently had a 75. I've downsized to the Colt to save on running costs but still have an enjoyable car to drive. I will be purchasing a 3 or a 5 depending on what suits my budget at launch, and it would be fantastic to be able to make that choice at some point during 2012 as opposed to having to wait longer.
Thanks again for the opportunity to contribute feedback, and I wish the rebirth of MG every success for the future.

Haven't had a reply yet. Hope they're able to get it on the market soon. I've read somewhere that they're planning at least one version by the end of this year...

MG ZS to make its return at the Shanghai Auto Show - Sun Apr 19, 2009 5:50 am
You're very diplomatic Windy, and I respect that greatly. However, the seemingly relentless anti-Chinese spirit from a great many contributors in the other forum represents a major turn off for many MG enthusiasts who are looking forward with excitement to what SAIC is going to produce. That's why this forum, in my judgment, represents the best home for everyone who genuinely adores MG and wants to contribute positively to its future.

I hope it is a resking, despite my love for the ZS, it is an aging design, although anything other than the ultimate car for sale for shirt buttons, with instant production at Longbridge will have them whinging and tearing it to bits on ever other forum!
- Some forums still think that all proper MGs were built in Abington and they will never move on,
- Some think that all proper MGs were built by MG-Rover and they will never move on either,
- MG itself has moved on, future MG cars will be built under SAIC,
- This time MG is going global, there is no place for Abingdon only or Longbridge only, although as we've seen in the Chile thread, it has gone global before.
- That is why this forum exists - "For enthusiasts of modern and future MG cars."
You've just summed that up beautifully! That's why this forum has a future and the others don't...
The New MG 6 Fastback Coupe - Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:27 am
Just posted this on the other forum:
Some of you guys seriously need a reality check around the economics of car manufacturing. If the Chinese hadn't invested in MG we would have absolutely zero to talk about today. And all this feux-nationalism and desperation to buy British did bugger all to help the brands we adore back in April 2005.
I'm disappointed that the anti-China drum keeps getting beat on this forum which is supposed to be an enthusiasts site for MG and Rover. We should be delighted that there's a new model about to be launched. However, instead some contributers (who have been very quiet of late) decide to return with the same old tired (and thiny-veiled racist) arguments. If people somehow believe buying a Volvo S80 for example is in some way staying true to supporting British manufacturing, then there's really no hope for you.
In order for SAIC to re-establish MG, the simple fact of the matter is that a large number of Chinese-produced cars will have to come first before Longbridge is considered for production. If you don't like that, then you don't have to buy the cars. But I would argue that anyone who is genuinely enthusiastic about MG, will have the vision to buy the Chinese-produced cars in the short-term in order to support the brand and secure Longbridge's future for the medium and long term.

You're absolutely right sir. I've just been on the other forum and the negativity and thinly-veiled racism quite frankly appauls me. I think the MG6 looks utterly fantastic. The money in my savings account is bursting to get out and pay for one! And to be completely honest, it's the MG brand I crave - not too bothered where they're made. The fact that the Honda Jazz is produced in China doesn't seem to harm its sales one bit. Why should it be a problem for MG?

MG ZS to make its return at the Shanghai Auto Show - Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:49 pm
Looks as if the NAC element of the new merged SAIC group seems intent in fully implementing its original product plan - if this is to be believed - and bring back the old ZS as the MG5. If this does go ahead, there's no way on earth we'll see it in Europe.
Of course, it could just be an April Fool. Let's hope so...

Welcome to MGUK - Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:32 am
Hello everyone ![]()
Delighted to be part of a forum that looks at what's happening with MG right now more positively than some other forums I could mention. The next couple of years should prove to be interesting for anyone with an affinity with the MG brand, and I very much look forward to sharing ideas, speculation, and above all enthusiasm with like minded folks on here!
Cheers
