Dissapearing Dealers - Sun Apr 22, 2012 7:29 pm

My closest dealer used to be in Croyden (I forget their name) but they've given up.

Now my closest is a new franchise at Rivervale near Brighton. They do other makes including Mazda, which might make for a bit of confusion over the model called '6'!

The MG Icon - Wed Apr 18, 2012 8:31 pm

Although it's described as a two door car, it seems to have four doors with the rear two opening backwards.

They can be seen open in the mostly monochrome picture, which also shows the rear tailgate open in a very TCVish way.

"MGs HAVE gone on sale in Birmingham for the first time" - Birmingham Post - Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:18 pm

What a shame the FinancialNews article had to reiterate the criticism of the P4.

Even if it's all true, it's got nothing to do with the good news they were meant to be reporting.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Mon Jul 11, 2011 5:18 pm

richardk wrote:http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_MGEVENTS

MG employees manned the stands and managed to get over 1,200 customer leads with well in excess of 200 test drives taking place across the two events.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to host the Chinese Ambassador at Goodwood and also take him for a test drive of the new MG6 Magnette up the famous Goodwood hill.

But there’s no rest for the wicked, as the team at MG are preparing for the launch of the MG6 Magnette, which is being formally unveiled in showrooms this weekend!

A Chinese Ambassador! I'd love another Ambassador, when will it be launched in the UK? Laughing

Hopefully there will be an announcement about new dealers coming on stream soon..then I'll update the map

I hope they get some new ones soon - Spur was my nearest dealer (still 27 miles away) but with them gone the nearest is now 55miles! That's SMC in Slough.

And I'm not in the middle of nowhere, I'm in the heart of Sussex only 15 miles from Gatwick airport. There should be a dealer in this town, or at worst in the next one (Crawley)

MGs New Corporate Image and UK MG6 Saloon launch - Tue Feb 15, 2011 5:08 pm

I've mentioned that when I'm at home in Sussex the forum thinks I'm on a train near Reading.

Now that I'm on the road and using an Orange wireless dongle, the forum thinks I'm in Bristol.

How odd.

MG on sale in Oman - Thu Sep 30, 2010 4:58 pm

When did they introduce keyless entry?

And this bit seems odd: "one-press engine start with the key still requiring insertion"; does any other manufacturer have this setup?

Looks about right for me.

Is that size (Golf II bounce Cheers) also about the same as a ZR?

I always found the ZR to be just the right size 99% of the time.

Interesting stuff!

It is. I note this bit:

A new engine test facility (£1.7m) will come on stream, so the Flight Shed will be handed back to St Modwen in April 2011.

That will be a big chunk of Longbridge history gone. Is it worth preserving?

Also, looking at the site plan at the bottom of the page, the blue area marked Future Expansion Area (build for the BINI) would seem ideally positioned for a future BIW operation, feeding through the paint shop and into the GA building.

mg6 my thoughts - Sun Sep 12, 2010 4:53 pm

I assume this was still the 'prototype', that is to say a Chinese spec car, much like the ones shown at Goodwood.

I do wonder why this car is being shown in the UK now when a UK spec car can't be far away, and will be (so we've been led to believe) quite different internally and more suitable for the UK market.

Having said that, the prototypes look pretty good and if the UK spec is 'better' (from our point of view) then it should be really good.

Wartburg got away with putting the radiator behind the engine

Why is it some journalists talk about an electric engine? Can't they tell the difference?

The electric T27 is being developed as a partnership between Murray’s design company and
Zytek Automotive, who are designing an all-new electric engine and gearbox.

Longbridge factory production models will be in 2012, prices are
expected to 5900 GB pounds, about 6 million RMB.

Not that cheap, surely?! Is that just a simple exchange-rate conversion to GBP? If it's that cheap I'll have two!

And more good news for Longbridge.

China braced for 30% drop in property prices - Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:50 pm

patpending wrote:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/china-business/7875713/Chinas-property-market-braced-for-30pc-drop.html

China views soaring house prices as a threat to social stability, since workers are shut out of the market. The price-to-earnings ratio is 13 in Beijing and Shanghai, four times Western levels.

A drop like that could cause riots over here.I wonder how they will take it?

Having said that, our houses are over priced and a gradual drop would make a lot of sense.

I think it is where the front drivers grab handle would normally be, the passenger has a normal grab handle there on his side.

Maybe it's a sunglasses holder?

Some cars have one in the centre of the roof, near the rear view mirror, but the space used by the grab handle is a good place to put one. The driver doesn't need a grab handle (or at least they *shouldn't* need one!)

Roewe 350 Under-bonnet

Comparing the Roewe 350 to the MG ZS shows a much neater layout with the New Small Engine moved backwards from the K-Series front engined location up against the radiator to a front mid engined location at the back of the engine compartment and mostly behind the front axle line giving better weight distribution and improved handling while removing the hard cylinder head away from the pedestrian impact zone.

Most of the fluid reservoirs are now located within easy reach in the space opend up at the front of the engine bay, brake fluid still being in its normal place.

Another item removed from the pedestrian impact zone are the suspension turrets scratch

K-Series owners will be delighted to see the old K-Series oil filler cap being retained! Although it has been moved to the front for ease of access along with the oil dip stick which would now be inaccessible if still using its K-Series location.

Who wrote that text? It's interesting that it compares the 350 to the ZS, and the NSE to the K series.

What does the absence of suspension turrets in the pedestrian impact zone imply? Have they been moved further back, or have they been eliminated - clues to the suspension setup perhaps?
