My recent purchase - Mon Apr 23, 2012 10:28 pm

Yes, that's the one.

The boot well is quite deep, too, useful for a few extra bits.

I actually fitted a bonnet from a 1968 MG 1300 in the back of my 6, and it was only because I didn't want to damage the interior or the bonnet that I folded the rear seats to get it in otherwise it would have fitted.

I guess you have tried all the menu set-up functions, too? That was fun discovering the setup and also changing the welcome screen photo. We have a photo of the model MG6 that we were sent by MG as the welcome photo, now.

I tried a 32GB flash key in the USB slot but it would not read it all, but it seems to work fine with a 4GB key.

The sat-nav needs updating though, some of the speed limits are now incorrect for our area and also the speed limit display doesn't always work on certain roads.

The hill-hold assist is the best feature as far as my wife is concerned but it only works when in 1st facing uphill or reverse facing downhill. The facelift will get an electric handbrake, I believe, looking at the photos of the Roewe 550.

Re the pad material, that could be partly it, but in reality the brake discs are small on the 6 compared to the ZT 190, and even compared to the smaller discs of the 160/75, so given the 6 weighs more than a ZT I fail to see how the brakes could be as good as a ZT with such small discs, all other things being equal.

Garlum, I am hoping to get to Thruxton but will have to see how the planning goes, I haven't booked tickets yet.

A few points to note re the 6:
The bootlid needs to be firmly closed otherwise the car won't lock properly or you will get an alarm on the dash when driving. Wind the rubber buffers in a few turns as that helps.
The coolant alarm float needs changing as the original can wedge in the bottle and give a false alarm. A taller version is now being fitted. Saying that, watch the coolant level anyway, ours was going down over a few thousand miles thanks to a clip not properly fitted but sorted now.
The alarm head unit will be replaced as the alarm can sound off if a chav drives passed with a phat zorst on his pimped Rova.
Otherwise, the notchy gearbox doesn't get any better, but just be steady and firm, not quick, especially 1st into 2nd. The clutch pedal on ours has a tiny squeak, but never noticed it until my wife said it had (I must be revving the engine too hard to hear it!)
Overall, I have to say I really enjoy our 6 and can only sing the praises of MG and our dealer in looking after ours, especially last July when it was hit on the side.
Oh, and have you found the extra storage box that is hidden?

Welcome to 6 ownership and get yourself to the MG6 Register event this weekend starting at Longbridge on Saturday at 12.30pm. http://www.mgcc.co.uk/mg-news/mg-club-news/1857-mg6-register-anniversary-event.html

If you do Facebook, you can also find us on there as the MG6 Register. Still loving our 6 and I have seen about 5 of them in the last month (all Avis) so the exclusivity factor is fading fast!

I also ran a ZT V6 160 for 7 years and the one area the 6 lacks is the ability to stand on its nose when you hit the brakes like the ZT did. But, given they share the same PCD and tyre size, I wonder if the 190's brakes could be retrofitted? The kind of speed the 6 can do on a country lane means decent brakes are essential and the ZT inpsired more confidence in that regard even if the 6 feels more nimble through the corners.

information on the MG5. - Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:54 am

Bigger wheels, spoilers, and a diesel engine... Very Happy

That rear 3/4 shot does look nice. However, I think the 6 and the 3 are still their best efforts to date.

The dash reminds me of the Mazda3, but it is looking much better than the black car photos suggested.

I wonder if you could use the Rover 75 style number plate? I have looked at this for the GT but the badge gets in the way, I think.

Geely plans car sales in UK with "Emgrand" brand - Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:44 am

IMOHO, Geely coming in at this price (reputedly £10k) with a car a little smaller than an MG6 is going to hurt not only their longer term image, but also the MG sales.

I don't believe it is necessary for MG to reduce their prices. They already offer a competetively priced car. However, MG will need to distinguish their pricing from that of Geely by playing on the heritage of the brand and the UK design and local capabilities.

What a surprise! I gave up bothering to argue with them on the 6 forum. I,m only commenting in the TF forum about it as Red Devil has one on loan.

I bet you are getting excited, though!

MG to enter BTCC in 2012 - Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:42 am

I have heard similar rumours from someone involved in motorsport and an MG follower/writer. His comment was that if it is going to happen an announcement will probably be around the time of the Autosport show in January. The question is, is the MG6 the car that will be used? Seems a bit heavy for the job? Also, what engines? Will it be the standard formula engine?

Spy Shots: The new Roewe 750 - Sat Dec 03, 2011 9:46 pm

I can't wait to see what they do with this with an MG badge on! It could create a serious top end model for the MG range that is lacking at present with the MG6 really being a ZS replacement rather than a ZT replacement, and the MG7 looking very dated now.

By the way, will you be keeping the 85th? In fact, have they sorted the problems? So far on my TF LE the r.p.sensors are playing up again, but otherwise all good at 21k miles.

Visit to Shanghai - Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:59 am

I don't know if this is the right place for this thread, I couldn't see other forums, but it is news, sort of...

I saw an MG6 Magnette in white last night outside the Riverview Hotel, I think these have lonly just been released here? I notice that the latest 6 has the UK style indicators in the mirror but still don't get the boot lip spoiler of the UK version.

The MG3 and Xross look really good, although I have only seen the 3 out in the wild and plenty of them, more so than the 6 or even the 7. The 7 seems to have gained some chrome around the grille which to be honest looks wrong in my opinion but then again that may be me thinking on the original ZT rather than seeing it as the Chinese see the MG7. I saw an MG7 last night with large rims on but it looked sort of wrong again owing to the higher ride height than the ZT had.

However, it is the Roewe that seems most popular around here in the 550 form. I have to say the more I see the 550 the more I like it and it is amazing that they seem to have done a good job of really separating the Roewe from the MG when in fact the body panels seem to be identical. However, why the difference in the interior door handles? I do like the styling of the Roewe door handles, though. The 350 also looks like a nice small car although it doesn't seem to stand out from the crowd as much as the 550 does. Saying that, the 350 being the basis for the new MG5 hopefully will work if they can style a hatch onto the rear as nicely as they have with the 6 from the 550.

There are also plenty of Roewe 750s around and the re-style of the boot and the longer cabin area do disguise its origins well as does the interior until you look at the instrument binnacle. However, despite this and the fact the 750 has been around awhile it is looking dated alongside the newer styled big cars from the other makers. I guess with the new 7/750 due soon here, that isn't an issue.

All in all, it has been a great week visiting the engine plant and meeting the good people of the MGCChina and seeing an MG 1100 Mk1 in the dealership and talking to a few owners.

The New Euro MG5 - Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:46 am

Let's hope the 5's rear end improves a little because right now seeing the 6 and the 3 together the 5 needs to follow similar styling as the 6 and the 3 hatches look just right. Black is never a good colour to photograph either.

Roewe 750 Hybrid - It's cheaper than a normal 750!!! - Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:43 am

I saw one of these Hybrid 750s this last weekend, I notice there have been some design changes to the headlights and front bumper if I am not mistaken compared to the earlier 750.

Or the "continuous squeal when wet" sensors fitted to the TF LE500 and 85th that had to be changed under warranty. In fairness the MG6 sensors work well, but the reverse camera could do with some scaling lines as I have seen on other makes. The Hyundai 4x4 has a clever screen built into the interior mirror.

The new Morris Garages showroom in Ben ’Aknoûn, Algeria - Sun Jul 24, 2011 9:33 pm

Looking at that dash I do like the beige, plus the 21st Century electronics that go well with the central screen. Ironically the black and beige is probably more Teutonic than just the plain black! I think that MG in the UK haven't really improved the 6's dash, in fact they have made it worse by trying to retro style the instruments into what was meant to be a digital dash. Just my thoughts. Agreed on your other comments!

The new Morris Garages showroom in Ben ’Aknoûn, Algeria - Sun Jul 24, 2011 11:19 am

Didn't mean to suggest that the MGs will outsell Toyota, but I think they provide a cheaper alternative to the Toyota. Whether they will have the reliability of the Toyota is open to debate and the Toyotas are priced at a premium because of its reputation in that regard. But I do feel these markets are more inclined to find the MG a good alternative choice where they don't have the UK's desire for German interiors.

The new Morris Garages showroom in Ben ’Aknoûn, Algeria - Sun Jul 24, 2011 7:50 am

Very similar styling to the UAE dealers, but the MG6 and MG3 may not be sold in the UAE, although an ex-pat Brit was keen to purchase the MG6 they had for evaluation.

The MG badged Roewe models are very nice but not true to the MG theme, more akin to the older Rover idea, and as for the MG badges, argh! Could they not have done a better job of fitting MG badges to these Roewe models than what I saw? I really think the MG350/550/750 will do well in these markets as they compete much better with the average choice of Far Eastern selection in terms of quality and fit/finish. Not sure about Algeria, but certainly in the Middle East Toyota outsell most other makes, and the standard of the MG models in beige finsih with walnut is better, and looks better, too.

Seriously, this looks a little too much like a Hyundai i20 or i30 but I will reserve judgement until seen without the camoflage.

Yup, got the Shell card and I get money off-vouchers every month, usually around £5 off depending on how much fuel I bought the month before.
