MG ZP11 to launch next year, Roewe limo apparently dropped

Post by docjunior2008 on Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:51 pm

With the Roewe 350 about to launch on the tails of the MG6 (which coincidently launches tomorrow), MG will get its own version of the Roewe 350 which has been codenamed MG ZP11 and is likely to be the MG5, or even 3.
2010 is set to be a big year for MG and Roewe with SAIC planning to launch the Roewe 350 in around March, plus a facelift MG3 SW will make an appearence in the middle of 2010 alongside a facelift Roewe 750, as well as the Roewe SUV
However, according to other information the MGZP11 is likely to wipe out the current MG3 series, and may well usher in a new MG3 SW rather than giving the current one a facelift. The MGZP11 is rumored to be carrying 1.5L and 1.8L engines, with the highest models getting dual clutch gearboxes.
The Roewe limo that was spotted out is apparently set to get the chop from any future Roewe line up, Roewe apparently had enough parts to build 200 cars but have since decided to scrap the project.

Do you think this car would be a success in the UK/Europe?

Depends which car your talking about, this is a very confused article talking about every car on the schedule and mixing them all up!

Unless they have decided to change all the codes then the Roewe 350 has the codename AP11 and there will at some point be an MG version of that. The codename ZP11 is for the smaller Roewe 250(150?) which may well turn into a new MG3 but with the MG3SW continuing for a while.

The troubles at Ssangyong and continuing non-cooperation have now terminated the Roewe 950 but the Roewe SUV which despite being based on a Ssangyong Kyron is to be built near Shanghai will continue.

It's a bit of a wait for the Beijing show...

Roewe 150 prototype interior:

The Roewe 150 is now scheduled for launch at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show (where the MG6 was launched in 2009) with the Roewe 350 scheduled for the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. Prices for the 150 are expected to start at around £6000.

The Roewe 150 powertrain will be the Nanjing Pukou produced NSE, probably starting with 1.3 and 1.5 NASP versions. The NSE engine is due for start of production at the end of this month, a pre-production engine can be seen fitted to this Roewe 350:

Roewe 350

Roewe 150

What are the big red buttons for on the passenger dashboard? surely the Korean collaboration doesn't mean the Roewe's passenger can fire Taepodong-2 rockets(!)

They're probably test cars. If anything goes wrong, then I presume that the button is pressed and the car stops?

I think it just cuts the electrical power for when smoke or flames appear, or the fly by wire decides on full power when you dont want it or the ABS decides to unlock the wheels when their not locked, etc, etc!

Yep,

Although it is only start of production and that isn't due till the last day of the month. The real launch will be at the Beijing Auto Show.

Can't say I like the look of that 150 at all.

It's got a hint of Austin Metro about it, wonder if the MG version will look anything like the 6R4 albino

The MG has more grill slats, although the wheels not only have the same number of spokes but the spokes are at the same angles:

If they enter it in the CRC S1 class the competition would be miles behind Twisted Evil

Think there may be a few complaints about the engine though, IIRC last time the 6R4 was entered as a works car it got banned for being too fast!
